It was an incredible game, and both sides showed equal grit and determination to win. The annual SMC vs. Old Girls' match was highly anticipated, with the Old Girls hoping to extend their impressive winning streak. However, this year’s contest ended in a 6-6 draw, breaking the Old Girls' dominance and proving that the next generation of SMC players is a force to be reckoned with.
From the first whistle, it was clear that both teams were in it to win. The Old Girls, led by Isabella House (Buzz), displayed their trademark skill and experience, controlling the game's tempo in the early stages. However, the SMC team, young and energetic, matched them play for play, showing off impressive teamwork and resilience.
A big shoutout goes to Isabella House for rallying the Old Girls’ team and ensuring they stayed motivated and competitive throughout the match. The same can be said for Sian Fremaux, who stepped in as their coach and provided invaluable guidance from the sidelines. On the SMC side, Wendy Shannahan played a key role in the event's organisation, ensuring everything ran smoothly.
Though both teams were hungry for the win, the final result—a 6-6 draw—felt like a victory for both sides. It was a fitting conclusion to a hard-fought game in which skill, strategy, and sportsmanship shone through. The spirit of competition and camaraderie will certainly carry forward into next year’s rematch.
