Congratulations to St Margaret’s alumna Kyra Mayers, named Art and Culture winner, and Maevi Fleming, winner of the Community Award category sponsored by St Margaret’s.

The GirlBoss mission to empower the next generation of female leaders in Aotearoa New Zealand aligns closely with St Margaret's long-standing commitment to empower girls to learn, live and lead.

Kyra, who graduated in 2024, was our Student Volunteer Army (SVA) ambassador during her time at St Margaret’s, racking up an impressive 500 hours of service, and inspiring other students to value resilience and service over recognition. With ambitions to become a cinematographer and currently studying Digital Screen with Honours, majoring in Cinematic Arts, Kyra has used her skills in filmmaking and photography to serve others.

Maevi, who is Head Girl at Roncalli College and Rangitata Youth MP, is committed to engaging youth in their community and environment. She is the founder of Eco Youth South Canterbury, connecting rangatahi through hands-on projects that are educational and put them in contact with subject-matter experts from within the community. She has also led initiatives to support empowerment and gender equity, and hosts forums where young people can express their concerns and opinions.

Congratulations to all the Canterbury Girlbosses, the future is in good hands with these passionate, capable, and visionary young leaders stepping up to create positive change in their communities and beyond.
