The location of the villa had been rezoned for high-density living, and quickly became surrounded by towering multi-dwelling developments.
Wanting a classic suburban childhood for their children, Noah, Maddy and Poppy, Lucy (class of 2001) and Kris found the perfect spot beside a leafy park. But to make it work, they had to move the entire house.
After five years of planning, their dream finally rolled into reality - literally. Weighing over 100 tons and balanced on a massive 96-wheeled trailer, the majestic villa made its one kilometer journey through the city streets. The move, featured on Moving Houses on TVNZ, had all the makings of high-stakes drama: dodging traffic lights, ducking under power lines, weaving past trees, and watched by a tense crowd who turned out to witness the spectacle.
Now safely settled on its new site, the house stands as a symbol of resilience, family vision, and the deep value of heritage. For Lucy and Kris, it’s more than just a house move, it’s the start of the suburban dream they always wanted for their children.
