The St Margaret’s College Foundation stands as an independent, professional entity, proudly recognised as a registered charitable trust. Guided by a dedicated Board of Trustees, our Foundation operates with a commitment to excellence and integrity, upholding the highest standards in stewardship and governance.
Our Trustees maintain a close and collaborative relationship with the St Margaret’s College Trust Board and Management. This partnership ensures optimal alignment and effective communication, focusing on the key areas and needs that are vital to the progress and prosperity of St Margaret's College.
Our Foundation is fortunate to have Trustees who generously volunteer their time and expertise. These individuals come from diverse professional backgrounds, each bringing unique skills and insights. Their collective efforts and dedication are invaluable in assisting the College to achieve its goals and uphold its mission.
On leaving St Margaret’s College, Ingrid studied a Bachelor of Laws at the University of Canterbury.
She first became a staff solicitor at Benseman Murfitt and then headed to her family firm, Taylor Shaw, where she cemented her reputation as a property and trust law specialist for 30 years. Ingrid is currently the property partner at Chapman Tripp, Christchurch, advising corporates and government entities on commercial property transactions, residential subdivisions, restructures, and leasing.
Ingrid has contributed significantly to the community, serving on the Canterbury District Health Board, the University of Canterbury’s Digital Screen Campus Establishment Board, and the Youth Hub Trust Board. More recently, she was appointed to the New Zealand Law Society Disciplinary Tribunal.
Ingrid served on the St. Margaret’s Trust Board for six years and remains a dedicated trustee of the St Margaret’s College Foundation, currently as Chair.
Over the years, Ingrid has racked up a number of sporting achievements, completing the two-day Coast to Coast event with her sister and recently representing New Zealand in Dragon Boating in Thailand.
Ingrid is the proud mother to Georgia (also an Old Girl of St Margaret’s) and Harrison.
Cindy McEwan established Lunar consulting following on from over 25 years working in the marketing, advertising and communications industries in Christchurch and London.
She has been involved in a number of award-winning brand projects and advertising campaigns, and has developed a comprehensive understanding of the brand spectrum from strategy through to implementation. Cindy is the Board of Trustees’ Representative on the Foundation Board.
Cindy’s daughter, Trelise is a current Year 13 student at St Margaret’s.
Greg has been a principal of Northington Partners for over 15 years and is now the Managing Director of the business. In that time, he has managed M&A and capital raising processes across a range of sectors including technology, construction and agri-business.
Greg has also been retained by publicly listed companies, large scale private companies, and State Owned Enterprises to provide advice in relation to strategy, capital structure, valuation and general corporate finance issues.
Greg’s daughter, Ruby, is a St Margaret’s Old Girl.
Martin is an experienced economic developer, who spent nine years with New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE), both here in Christchurch and in San Francisco.
He joined the team of Christchurch NZ in 2022 and is passionate about bringing a wealth of knowledge from both the private and public sectors and has a huge passion and enthusiasm for the growth of Christchurch city.
Martin’s daughter Hollie is a current Year 13 student at St Margaret’s.
Jeremy is a financial advisor at Craigs Investment Partners in Christchurch.
Jeremy has over 20 years of banking and investment experience including, eight years working for investment banks in London and in equity valuation at Credit Suisse First Boston and research at WestLb Panmure. On returning home he set up and managed his own business before moving to private banking.
Jeremy’s youngest daughter, Coco is a current Year 13 student at St Margaret’s.
Diana first realised her love for teaching as a swimming teacher throughout her high school, then a rowing coach during university. A love of natural sciences led her to a Bachelor of Science in cell biology, and a talent for water polo and rowing kept her at university to obtain a second major in zoology. Her Overseas Experience before returning to Canada to study medicine turned into six years in Papua New Guinea, a career in advertising and marketing and the beginnings of a family. On relocation to Australia she chose to undertake postgraduate studies in education to support her four sons as they began their school journeys.
For 15 years Diana taught new entrants through to seniors in state and independent sectors. In 2005, Diana joined a new single-sex school in Queensland to build a school programme and culture from scratch. Moving to New Zealand, she held the position of principal of Kristin Junior School, Auckland, for five years before joining St Margaret’s College as Executive Principal in 2018.
Fionn is the General Manager - Business Director of St Margaret’s College and has been in this role for seven years.
Fionn has a BA (Hons) Accounting and Finance, and came to St Margaret’s College from the Otago University School of Medicine having held the position of business and operations manager.
Olivia attended St Margaret’s College from 2006-2010 and upon leaving school graduated with an LLB and a BA from the University of Canterbury. After completing university, Olivia joined the Christchurch Public Defence Service. During her time at the Public Defence Service Olivia managed her own team of lawyers as well as representing her clients. She moved to the Independent Bar in 2024.
Olivia specialises in criminal law. She has appeared regularly in the District and High Courts, as well as appearing in the Court of Appeal. In 2017, Olivia was appointed as an adjudicator for the Racing Integrity Board, formerly known as the Judicial Control Authority for Racing in New Zealand.
Olivia’s step-daughter, Bella Cook, is a current Year 8 student at St Margaret's College.
Arihia attended St Margaret’s College before pursuing a career in social work. From 1999 to 2002 she was a director for Ngāi Tahu Development Corporation, and served as chair from 2002 to 2005. In 2011 Bennett was appointed chief executive of He Oranga Pounamu, the iwi organisation responsible for health and social services in the South Island. In 2012 she was appointed chief executive officer of the iwi, becoming the first female to hold the position.
Arihi has held several advisory roles, including Commissioner to the Canterbury Earthquake Recovery Commission (CERC) following the September 2010 earthquake.
She is a member of the Pūhara Mana Tangata Māori advisory panel to the Ombudsman's Office and a member of the New Zealand-China Council.
She has served on the boards of Barnardos NZ and the Christchurch Women's Refuge. In 2021 Arihia was appointed chair of the Ministerial Advisory Group on the Government's Response to the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the 2019 terrorist attack on the Christchurch mosques.
Arihia is an alumna of graduate business school INSEAD Fontainebleau.
In 2024, Arihia resigned as chief-executive of Ngāi Tahu, after almost 12 years in the role. She was the longest-serving CEO to date.
In the 2008 Queen’s Birthday Honours, Arihia was appointed a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to Māori and the community. In the 2024 King’s Birthday Honours, she was promoted to Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to Māori, governance and the community.
Erin has been employed by St Margaret’s College since 2022 having previously been employed at Christ Church Cathedral Reinstatement Ltd where she led the fundraising campaign for the Christ Church Cathedral Reinstatement Project.
She has a passion for the benefits of independent school education and has considerable experience in the sector. She is a former committee member of Educate Plus (NZ), a network of professionals working in the education sector.
Other experience includes fundraising for the Chapel at College House, University of Canterbury and as Director of External Relations at Wanganui Collegiate School.
Kate joined the Foundation in 2024 as our part time administrator. Kate has a Bachelor of Laws and Bachelor of Commerce from Otago University and practised law in Christchurch for 17 years.
She left her in-house counsel role at Solid Energy in 2012 to focus on raising her family. Prior to joining the Foundation team Kate was volunteering for various organisations.
Kate’s youngest child, Lucy is currently a Year 12 student at St Margaret’s College.
