Old Girls
Celebrating global connections and shared histories

At the heart of the St Margaret's College community is our Old Girls’ Association (SMCOGA), a thriving network of alumnae spread across New Zealand and the globe. The mission of SMCOGA is to nurture connections that span the past, present, and future, celebrating the enduring bond shared by all who have walked through the gates of our College.

We hold a deep appreciation for our Old Girls, especially those who played a significant role in the wake of the 2010-11 Christchurch earthquakes. Their generous contributions towards the Old Girls’ Atrium during the campus rebuild have left a lasting legacy, and their ongoing support continues to enrich our College community.

SMCOGA is more than an association; it is a global community of former students who are making their mark in diverse and stimulating environments. Our members extend the spirit of St Margaret's College beyond Christchurch, Canterbury, and New Zealand, making impactful contributions worldwide.

Since the first meeting of the Old Girls in 1913, with the noble aim of ‘binding the past and present in unity and strength’, over 12,000 girls have transitioned from students to members of SMCOGA. This rich history underpins the association's commitment to maintaining a vibrant and supportive community.

Today, SMCOGA focuses on creating and sustaining a robust sense of belonging among our Old Girls, supporting them at every stage of their lives. Our alumnae maintain a strong affinity with the College through enduring friendships, shared memories, and active involvement in the life of the school.

Our Old Girls regularly connect through reunions and community events, both within New Zealand and internationally. They are not just alumnae; they are mentors, coaches, and role models to our current students and often return as parents and grandparents, continuing the cycle of engagement and support for the next generation of St Margaret’s students.
