From South Korea to Otago, wit two prestigious international student scholarships

Kate Seol has been awarded two scholarship offers from the University of Otago as she embarks on the competitive Health Sciences First Year (HSFY) programme at Otago.

Kate Seol, (Year 13 2024) and an international student from South Korea, is set to begin an exciting new chapter of her academic journey in New Zealand. Kate joined St Margaret's in 2020; she has thrived in her studies and is now preparing to embark on tertiary education at the University of Otago in Dunedin.

Reflecting on her achievements, Kate expressed her gratitude for the opportunities that have come her way, saying, “I am honoured to have received two scholarship offers from the University of Otago: the Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship for International Students and the University of Otago International Global Scholarship.”

After careful consideration, Kate accepted the University of Otago International Global Scholarship. This prestigious award is a testament to her hard work and academic promise. The scholarship will support her studies in the competitive Health Sciences First Year (HSFY) programme, a pathway designed for students aspiring to enter fields such as medicine, dentistry, and pharmacy.

Kate will be living at Caroline Freeman College, one of Otago’s halls of residence, which provides a supportive and inclusive environment for first-year students. She is looking forward to immersing herself in the vibrant student life and culture that Dunedin is known for.

For Kate, the opportunity to study in New Zealand is not just about academia. It is also about embracing new cultures, building lifelong friendships, and developing a global perspective. Her choice of HSFY reflects her passion for health sciences and her commitment to contributing meaningfully to the world.

As Kate sets her sights on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, she exemplifies the resilience, ambition, and adaptability that define the international student experience. Dunedin and the University of Otago are sure to benefit from her enthusiasm and talent, just as she will undoubtedly thrive in her new academic environment.
