2016 Head Girl Aryn Azlan loved being a St Margaret’s Girl. Graduating after a ‘magic’ 11 years at SMC, Aryn set off to London to study medicine at King’s College London, graduating in 2023 with her medical degree and a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience.
Aryn’s time at King's was not all study; a well-rounded SMC Old Girl, she was actively involved in the Guy’s King’s and St Thomas Women’s Rugby club during university - playing scrum half for the club from 2018 to 2023 and taking the role of President of the club in 2021 and 2022.
Proclaiming to hate cross country at school, Aryn surprised herself by enjoying running in recent years, completing two half marathons and summiting Kilimanjaro during her medical elective in Tanzania.
Drama was a big part of her time at SMC and continued during her time at university, being part of the Southwark Youth Company in South East London during 2019 and 2020 and also being the Head of Development and Events of the Kings College London Theatre Society in 2021 and 2022.
We contacted Aryn at her current job in Poole, where she is in her first year as a doctor, “I have worked in psychiatry and surgery jobs and am currently working in geriatric medicine. I am very interested in psychiatry and was fortunate enough to publish research on the Incidence of First-Episode Psychosis during the COVID pandemic. I have presented my research at the Royal College of Psychiatrists International Congress, and this year, I won the Foundation Doctor of the Year award in the southeastern region of the UK.”
