A Story of Rona – St Margaret’s College MIDDLE SCHOOL PRODUCTION
A STORY OF RONA by Stephanie Matuku is a tale of rivalry with unexpected consequences between two sassy teenage girls, set in the world of the much-loved Māori pūrākau (myth) of Rona and the Moon.
This vibrant production is packed with singing, dancing, poi, tī rākau, and a few surprising twists along the way. Meet unforgettable characters including a Taniwha, bossy Auntie, chatty old man, the Moon himself – Te Marama – and a colourful cast of villagers, poi girls, and mystical patupaiarehe (mischievous fairies).
Performed by a double cast, A Story of Rona is a joyful, family-friendly show. At under an hour long, it’s the perfect outing for the whole whānau.

ARTS FESTIVAL - tickets now on sale!
Come and take a stroll through the SMC arts as we celebrate all the amazing artistry from 2025. Capturing a festival feel, there will be a variety of things on offer: dance performances, live music, speed debating, as well as fun activities such as a fashion show, sphero racing and face-painting. This is an outdoor event with food trucks on-site. An event not to be missed, so come and join in the fun!

Toi Toi Opera presents Riders to the Sea performances THIS FRI/SAT
Allow yourself to be swept away by the haunting beauty of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ tragic opera based on the J. M. Synge play, reimagined for Aotearoa New Zealand, and incorporating the music of Dame Gillian Whitehead, David Hamilton, and John Ireland.
Toi Toi Opera is delighted to welcome back Sara Brodie (Director) and Mark Hodgkinson (Conductor) to the company to spearhead this extraordinarily special season, featuring a stellar all-local cast, chorus, musical, and creative team.
This immersive new production stars mezzo-soprano Margot Button as Maurya, with sopranos Erin Connelly-Whyte as Cathleen, Matilda Wickbom as Nora, and baritone Alex Robinson as Bartley. Featuring soprano Holly Evans and Mahina-Ina Kingi-Kaui on Taonga Pūoro, and the Toi Toi Opera Chorus. A semi-staged production, with chamber orchestra accompaniment.
