Rugby 7sMahuika 7's winners!
On Thursday, September 19, SMC sent 3 teams, totaling 40 athletes, to the Mahuika 7s tournament.
Two teams were composed of young players, many of whom had never played rugby before. They gave it their all and learned so much about 7s and themselves over the course of the day. All finished with sore bodies but smiling faces.
The Senior team breezed through pool play, winning the two games 53-0 and 42-10. In the semi, they faced a strong Rangiora team and came away with a 21-10 win.
In the final, the team faced a solid Avonside team. SMC was in control the whole game and finished with a 35-20 win.
Congratulations girls!
Swimming
During the holidays, Canterbury Swimming named two target squads working towards Olympic selection:
Millie Bell has been named to the Canterbury Target 2028 Squad
Olivia Vivian has been named to the Canterbury Target 2032 Squad
The Squads aim to give these swimmers an opportunity to access the necessary training, performance sport-specific education, support, and overseas racing experience to reach the ultimate goal of Olympic selection.
What an outstanding achievement, girls! We wish you all the best with your training!
