Gymnastics
Congratulations to Chané Botha, who was named the 2024 Canterbury Champion in Women Artistic Gymnastics’s (WAG) Step 7. This outstanding result means Chané automatically qualifies as the first-place team member representing Canterbury at the Nationals event held in Palmerston North in October 2024.
Chané does an amazing job of juggling her 23 hours of weekly training with her school work and time for her friends. Keep up the good work, and we wish you well at Nationals Chané.

Netball
St Margaret's College entered 8 teams into the Year 3-8 Rainbow Netball Tournament run by the Christchurch Netball Centre last Sunday. It was a crisp morning at the Hagley Netball Courts. Fortunately the sun came out and the teams had a great time. Every goal that they scored helped them to achieve different coloured bands of the rainbow.
The girls looked great in their team outfits, and a couple of teams achieved the Rainbow band as they completed their scorecards!
Thank you to all the team managers, coaches, parents and umpires who helped make the day a great success.
QUAD - 1st equal overall
Another successful tournament for our Winter Quad participants was held in Dunedin. The weather was amazing, and the girls all enjoyed the competition and the awesome company of existing and new friends.
The overall competition was so close that it resulted in a three-way tie for first place overall!
Badminton - 2nd overall
A young team managed to keep up with the more experienced teams, narrowly losing to the impressive Columba College team by just one set.
Football - 5th overall
With a relatively young team, our SMC girls did lose all four games. However, they only lost each game by one goal, including a penalty shootout—the future looks good for SMC Football.
Hockey - 2nd overall
With some big wins against St Hilda's, Craighead and Columba, it would always go down to the wire for the game against Rangi. 3-3 at full time with the cruel way of penalty shots to determine the winner.
Netball - 1st overall
Happy to say that after some mixed performances during two games, the SMC girls were able to put out stellar performances against both Craighead and Columba College to record four wins.
At the tournament, SMC had four girls named as MVPs, which is an outstanding achievement.
Congratulations to:
Amanda Yang - Badminton
Trelise McEwan - Football
Lulu Inglis - Netball
Margo Dalling - Hockey
