Guests had the privilege of hearing from David Kennedy, General Manager of the Antarctic Centre, who captivated the audience with tales of Antarctic exploration.
David shared the remarkable story of Ernest Shackleton and his relentless push for the pole, highlighting his courage, passion, and optimism - qualities that closely align with the school’s Catch Your Wave theme. Shackleton’s unwavering determination in the face of adversity served as a powerful lesson in resilience and leadership.
The discussion also touched on the legacy of Robert Scott, particularly through the eyes of his wife, Kathleen. A talented artist, Kathleen sculpted a statue of her late husband, preserving his memory and dedication to Antarctic exploration. David also shed light on the often-overlooked contributions of women in Antarctica, emphasising their spirit and the strong sense of whanaungatanga - the bonds of community and shared purpose - that have shaped their roles in polar history.
Thanks to everyone who came along, and thank you, David, for sharing these inspiring stories and making the event such a memorable and meaningful experience.
The next PFA breakfast will be for Year 12-13, on Friday 16 May.
