St Margaret's College joined brother school Christ’s College’s Chapel service in celebration of their 175th anniversary.
Speaking at the Chapel, St Margaret’s Executive Principal Diana Patchett emphasized our long relationship, symbolising our “deep connections — both schools founded by the early settlers whose vision shaped Ōtautahi Christchurch, grounded in faith, education, and a passion for cultural flourishing.”
St Margaret's gifted Christ’s College a symbolic piece of art by Hikurangi Edwards, “Te Awhiorangi, ” which translates to “The embrace of the heavens.” The piece is a carving from layers of paint, and carries a powerful narrative.
Head Prefect Sina Avia explained how the piece symbolises the strength of unity, speaking of “discovery, perseverance, and the strength to navigate new horizons, values which unite our two schools.”
Deputy Head Prefect Zoë Rea spoke about how artist Hikurangi Edwards demonstrated “patience, care and exploration” in the creation of his work, and of the bonds of our shared traditions and a collective responsibility to shape future generations.
We congratulate Christ’s College on its 175th anniversary.
