Jelly Bean Festival - It looks like a fun day for all of you!
The annual Year 5-8 Jellybean netball tournament was held last Sunday and run by the Christchurch Netball Centre. This was a colourful success, with six teams dressing up and competing against other teams from the area.
Thank you to the coaches, umpires, managers and supporters for making this such a fun event.

SMC Year 7A 80’s team
Over the weekend, the U18 South Island tournament was held at Nga Puna Wai.
SMC was well represented in the Christchurch U18A team, with Nevaeh Dunn, Siahn Nilsen, Charlotte Coughlan, Annie Francis and Old Girl 2023 Milly Farrell winning well in all their games. Evie Leeson is also on the team but didn't play on the weekend due to her basketball commitments. Congratulations to you all.
Rugby
This year, the SMC Rugby programme has expanded in numbers, and we have entered our own team in the local CRFU Senior Girls competition for Term 2.
While playing ten aside at present, we have played a variety of other local schools and have been quite dominant, with five big wins so far over Villa Maria, Haeata and Rangi Ruru. The season will get harder over the remainder of the term as we come up against St Andrew’s College and CGHS.
Our team comprises girls from all year levels and abilities, with half the team having their very first season of full-contact rugby. Next term, we will join with Rangi Ruru College for the 15 aside competition before we start 7’s. If you want to watch or join in, please see Mr Freeman or Ms Farrar-De Wagt.
Table Tennis
Congratulations to Jennifer Hsia and Tracey Hsia, who recently competed in Table Tennis at the 2024 South Island Teams Champs.
Hopefully, the achievements of these two young athletes will inspire more girls to give Table Tennis a try. Well done on your success.
Jennifer's team has won the U19 Girls
Tracey's team won the U15 Girls.
