MIDDLE SCHOOL ARTS AWARDS

On Thursday 7th of November we celebrated Middle School Arts success at a wonderful and joyful assembly. The awards were accompanied by beautiful performances from bands The Spoons and The Paper Dolls, a powerful poetry performance by Chloe Drinkwater and a vibrant dance performance from the Middle School Dance Company of CopaCabana. 

We are pleased to further recognise arts winners in this newsletter: 

Arts Badges: 

An Arts Badge is awarded to students who have demonstrated a high level of skill, with a minimum of two full years of committed contribution at Middle School level to one or more of the arts. This will include participation in at least two different school co-curricular groups or projects for two full years.

ARTS BADGE RECIPIENTS

Middle School Arts Colours 

Colours are awarded to students who demonstrate outstanding skill and committed contribution at Middle School level to one or more of the arts for a minimum of two full years, including participation in at least two different school co-curricular groups or projects for two full years. 

There is also a service component which includes going above and beyond mere participation. For example, leadership initiatives such as the establishment of a new group, mentoring younger students, assisting at school events, and helping behind the scenes of concerts or productions.  

Recipients must also have gained regional or national recognition.

Dedication to Middle School Drama: Phoebe Jones.

Dedication to Middle School Debating: Lena Abdinor.

Dedication to Middle School Kapa Haka: Annabelle Smallman and Hāna Te Awa. 

For Dedication to Middle School Music: Phoebe Jones and Alice Rodda.

Dedication to Middle School Technology: Chloe Marfell. 

Dedication to Middle School Visual Arts: Emma Chenjia Li.

Red Roses: 

Red roses are awarded to students who have gained National Recognition in their discipline.

This year a number of our outstanding SMC students have achieved fantastic results at a national level in their chosen genre. I would like to welcome the following students on stage to receive their roses and stay on stage until they have all been presented.

Briar Sharp achieved Junior Entertainer of the Year NZ Country Music Awards 2024. What an amazing achievement, well done Briar. 

Kristina Weetman for top placings in the Irish Dancing NZ National Competition. Congratulations Kristina. 

Amy Viles, along with her team, placed first in the National Robocup Competition. Well done, Amy.

Indie Symonds for achievements in Dance, with her troupes top placings at the Evolution National Finals. Fantastic achievement Indie. 

Congratulations, girls, and thank you for your dedication to the Arts here at SMC.

JUNIOR SCHOOL RED ROSES

Red Roses are awarded to students who have achieved at the highest level in age group competitions or events. They need to have achieved first or second in their age group or have been selected for national representation. 

A warm congratulations to the following students- 

Phoebe He of Year 6 has achieved an amazing feat in Rhythmic Gymnastics. In the October School holidays, Phoebe competed at the Rhythmic Gymnastics Nationals in Palmerston North. Phoebe was awarded second place in Stage 5. A fantastic achievement. Well done, Phoebe. 

Millie East of Year 5 is working incredibly hard at her cheerleading. She recently competed at Cheer Nationals in Auckland and her squad the NeonKatz was awarded Gold or First Place for Elite Level 1 Youth and 2nd in Level 1 Grand Champs. Amazing work, Millie. 

Kenna Evans of Year 3 is also a very dedicated cheerleader. Her squad, the Kittenz, also competed at Cheer Nationals recently and were thrilled to win Gold or First Place for Elite Level 1 Mini. Amazing work, Kenna. 

Stella Lee of Year 4 has achieved two amazing feats recently in both rhythmic gymnastics and dance. At the recent Rhythmic Gymnastics National championships she was awarded National Champion in Grade 3. Not only that, at the recent New Zealand Dance Awards, she was also awarded the 2024 Petit Top Dance Award and was given a stunning korowai to wear for the year as the top dancer. Amazing work, Stella. 

St Margaret’s is very proud of you for the effort you are putting into your chosen passions. We know how hard you work and how much time you spend perfecting your craft in these areas.
