Careers News: Law

"A valuable insight into how a law firm ticks, with students learning about such things as the various law specialisations, career progression and earning potential."

This is how St Margaret’s College Career Pathways Advisor and Facilitator Jenni McLaughlin described a recent high school open day at our Ōtautahi Christchurch office.

About 30 students and careers advisors came from eight high schools across the city. The students are all interested in pursuing a legal career and visited us to hear from a selection of staff from various areas of the business.

“Kudos to Lane Neave for creating this event and hosting senior school students in their offices,” Jenni says.

“This was one of the most informative encounters with the world of work throughout my time working in careers. In particular, the Q&A session with the panel of four lawyers at various stages of their careers was super helpful.”

Designed by Lane Neave’s People and Capability team, the day included a short tour and presentations.

A particularly popular session was a Q&A panel with Mark Williams, Hannah Petrie, Paige Sullivan and George Brougham, which covered studying law, being a lawyer and interesting work experiences.

The open day is one of many student outreach activities organised each year and aligns with Lane Neave's Corporate Social Responsibility intent to contribute positively to our communities.
