SMC Connect News |
It’s a small world if you’re part of the SMC community. In the Spring 2023 Evergreen magazine, we caught up with Ella Hawthorne (2007-2011) and her mission to bring healthcare to the poorest countries in the world aboard Mercy Hospital Ships.
Ella left us to embark on a two-year mission to Africa and along the way she was reunited with school friend Alexandra Gordon (2009-2013). Alexandra was on board serving as an Operating Room Nurse working in the Eye Room, alongside Ella, for her four weeks on board. Ella and Ally were able to reminisce about their times together in various SMC choirs and their participation in the 2010 school musical, The Sound of Music.
Ella has now officially taken on a staff position as the Ophthalmic Program Manager covering the eye programme across both the Global Mercy and Africa Mercy.
