Our Cricket, Tennis, Touch and Volleyball teams have returned from the annual summer quadrangular tournament hosted by Craighead Diocesan in Timaru. Three great days of competition and camaraderie saw our Cricket, Tennis & Volleyball teams go through undefeated against Craighead, Columba College, Rangi Ruru and St Hilda's Collegiate, and our Touch team playing some greatly improved games to contribute to the overall points table.
SMC took out the overall trophy again this year, and our cricket team achieved success with a first-time impressive win against St Hilda's.
Congratulations to:

Lucy Young - Tennis
Sophie Booth - Touch
Delilah Brown - Volleyball
in being awarded certificates of contribution for Effort, Fair Play and Sportsmanship.
School Swimming Sports
We were treated to fantastic weather last Thursday for our School Swimming Sports. The day started with juniors setting a fast pace in the water and lots of excitement and cheering. The noise and pace stepped up in the afternoon when the seniors hit the water. It was a fantastic day with lots of House support and spirit and great competition in the House relays. We have had a number of girls now qualify for the Canterbury Secondary Schools being held in the last week of term, good luck to them for their upcoming event.
Cricket
Ciara Hartland has been bowling and batting up a storm in the Women’s Premier Cricket over the last two weekends. Ciara got the Female Performance of the week and is set for another chance at it this week after a strong performance in her last game. Way to go Caira!
Equestrian
Briar Sharp competed recently in the Canterbury Show Jumping Championships. Briar won the 1m pony championship class on her pony “ She’s a Cracker”. We are looking forward to watching Briar and the Equestrian girls show off their dressage skills next week in the Canterbury Secondary Schools Dressage Champs.
Korfball
The Korfball teams have been enjoying great success in the Mixx Korfball competition run on a Friday night. The Junior Red team had a fantastic game last week, with many members getting their first career goals. This Friday, we have a number of teams playing from 4:10pm at SMC in the gym. Come down and support the girls and discover this fantastic fast-paced, fun sport.
Congratulations to Emma Hoskins who will be travelling to Taiwan next month with the MIXX U19 team to compete. Emma is also a member of the New Zealand U21 squad. Well done on a fantastic effort Emma and we look forward to following you in action.
Rowing
Well done to the rowing squad, who have put on another fantastic performance to take out 11 medals in the South Island Secondary School Rowing Championships. The girls have stayed on from this regatta in Twizel in preparation for the upcoming Maadi Regatta.
Report from the Heads of Rowing Aine Leeson and Coco Flood
Over the past few months, the girls have put in lots of hard work in training, with everyone showing great dedication and teamwork. Early last week, the squad travelled to Twizel to race in South Island Secondary Schools. All the girls pushed themselves and raced extremely well at the regatta, where we brought home 4 golds, 3 silvers, and 4 bronzes while also placing second in the points cup. This is a great demonstration of how everyone in the team has played a part in the success of the squad. This has shown us that the girl's hard work over the past few months is beginning to pay off. It has been amazing to see the support that the parents have given the girls, whether it is in the kitchen or on the side of a lake. We are so fortunate to have their support as they truly impact the success of our squad. As we head into our last big week of camp and final training block where the girls will be pushed both mentally and physically in order to create fast crews and get the most out of themselves before heading up North to Lake Karapiro, where the girls will be able to display their hard work and dedication while racing as crew for the final time. We can’t wait to see the girls catch their wave, bring on the Maadi Regatta!!
Results from the weekend at SISS in Twizel.

Our girls delivered outstanding performances, with Kathy, Lyla, and Jessie earning podium finishes and all girls achieving multiple PBs. Well done, girls.
Independent Schools Zones Swimming Competition
Despite the wet and windy weather on Wednesday morning, our Year 5-8 girls showed incredible determination as they competed in the Independent Schools Zone Swimming Competition at Wharenui Pool. The team delivered outstanding performances, with all swimmers giving their best and many achieving remarkable results.
Most of our swimmers qualified for the finals, and several have secured spots in the upcoming Canterbury Primary Sports Swimming competition. Our Year 7 & 8 relay teams also put on a stellar performance, winning their events and advancing to Canterbury’s.
A heartfelt thank you to the wonderful parents who came along to support the team—it was greatly appreciated! And a huge congratulations to the following swimmers who have qualified: Lyla O’Sullivan, Penny O’Sullivan, Inka Somerville-Smith, Amelia O’Connell, Charlotte Stockman, Cara Holland, Kimberly Carr, Jessie Scott and Isla Foley.
Well done, everyone!

Triathlon
It was a fantastic day for the South Island Secondary triathlon held on the 2 March, in Oamaru. The SMC girls’ team claimed first place in the Intermediate teams category. Sydney Alva, Emma Crawford and Chloe Drinkwater each won their legs of the race.
Sophia Tuck competed in the Challenge Wanaka event, coming 7th in the U19 category.
Well done girls on an amazing effort!
Volleyball
Three SMC senior volleyball teams showcased their talent and determination at the recent Mainland Volleyball tournament, competing against top teams from around the South Island. With skilful performances across the board, the teams secured strong finishes in their respective divisions, including a nail-biting final for the Senior A team which went to 5 sets.
Their final was an intense battle, with both teams displaying incredible skill and teamwork. The final set had the crowd cheering, but despite their best efforts, the team narrowly missed out on the championship title, finishing a commendable 2nd place overall. The teams will be hungry to perform well in their next tournament, which is coming up on March 14-16. The Senior A team will endeavour to take out the title of Canterbury Secondary Schools champions before they head to the New Zealand Secondary Schools Nationals in Palmerston North during tournament week.
Meanwhile, the Senior Red and Green teams also put on a strong showing, demonstrating resilience and teamwork in their matches. Their efforts paid off with a solid 4th place for the Red team and 9th for the Green team in their division. The teams showed great promise and will no doubt return even stronger this coming weekend.

Old Girls Tayla Hardy and Scarlett Kirby have just been featured in the Netherlands News for their amazing efforts in Korfball. Both are currently over in the Netherlands playing Korfball and developing their game. We are looking forward to Tayla bringing her new learnt skills back to SMC to coach in term 4.
